"Perhaps self-respect is a bit overrated,
especially if we’ve been talking about falling madly in love."
If I begin to search for a core, I can certainly find it, no matter what it is covered with.
Therefore, creating an anthology is not at all challenging.
The only challenging thing is deciphering the mysteries of coincidences, timings, and the serendipity of compiled selections. I don't watch these films to create these anthologies. However, somehow, the random viewing preferences I make at certain intervals come together and gather under one specific umbrella.
When I start contemplating a few recent viewings and the impact of the movies on me, a common theme, a common message, a shared emotion begins to emerge.
This time, my treasure-like discovery of the core gave me the following analogy;
"Perhaps self-respect is a bit overrated, especially if we’re talking about falling madly in love."
Here is my watch list for Late November - Early December
This time another common unconscious choice I've made is for the films:
To be directed by auteur directors
Dream Scenario
The tragedy of characters taking a long time to understand what truly matters in life is by no means a new theme for cinema.
However, the delusion of self-realization has never been written as hilariously before. That was the novelty.
This absurd and tension-filled comedy has a highly successful narrative structure!
Perhaps the reason I had twice as much fun watching the movie compared to most viewers is my tendency to find this situation genuinely amusing and pitifully funny in real life as well.
The human and their futile efforts... Funny.
And amidst the chaos of all this meaningless struggle, and all this sillyness people who despite our utter wretchedness, never cease to love us.
How wonderful to be loved like this! But how difficult it is for the one who loves! For the one;
Those who have forgotten for a while, and then forgotten themselves to forget that they were forgotten, even if it's just for a while.
This movie has an incredible structure where the main character, living within a dream, confronts their own reality through the dreams of others!
I concluded the first day of my new age by watching this magnificent film in the movie theatre. Because Dream Sceneraio was my birthday gift to myself.
Maestro
Describing such a complex relationship, love, connection—how could it be narrated in such a high frequency yet simultaneously tension-free, I don't know.
I highly value the debut films of directors whose primary profession is not filmmaking.
Madonna, Tom Ford, Robert De Niro—these are just a couple of names that stand out for me. Now, Bradley Cooper has joined their ranks.
It's not only a story whic has cinematic value but also possesses musical significance, meticulously designed in this unique balance and great editing.
As an audience I find myself entering the tables, family gatherings, workplaces, and beds of great artists in American performing arts history through this film.
That alone is more than sufficient, nourishing, and admirable.
Yet, there are two crucial focal points that capture all this attention:
The beauty of not giving up on One's beliefs under any circumstances, and the comforting embrace of surrounding oneself with individuals who understand the value of this beauty.
An understanding about beauty...
Being understood in this way, and embracing and protecting such beauty is truly wonderful!
But how challenging it is for the one who understood! For the one;
Those who have forgotten their beauty for a while to remember other one's beauty all the time. My dear Felicia, my love... I was so sad during the story. She was stuck! Because if she remembers her own beauty, she cannot stay. If the she forgets the beauty of her love, she cannot stay. She must forget her own and constantly remind herself of the lovers beauty to be able to continue to stay.
Phantom Thread
Jennifer Lawrence said she has had enough real-life experience with controlling, narcissistic artists—thank you very much. According to Vanity Fair, she only watched 3 minutes of Phantom Thread.
Perhaps I am stronger than Jennifer Lawrence, but I agree; it's hard to witness the behavior of controlling, narcissistic artists.
Paul Thomas Anderson really interesting person as a writer and also director.
I love “Punch-Drunk Love”, and this two movie almost has same codes under the writing;
Brother-Sister relations’ power balances, sibling bonds haunted by the longing for parents lost in childhood, resilient male characters struggling in their relationships with the opposite sex, and the profound psychological issues these characters grapple with. Ultimately, they find solace in loving women who have embraced them as they are and know how to guide them, even if just a little.
In fact, these women are as peculiar as the male characters, sharing a certain strangeness or disorder, creating a connection among lovers who share an eccentricity.
Lovers who can overcome challenges that the average person may find difficult to handle.
I enjoyed every second of Phantom Thread, much like I did with 'Punch-Drunk Love.'
It offers an incredible psychological tension and is brimming with a wonderfully eccentric romance. The movie's theme described as Drama, History, Romence. No sir! No. They should add this urgently to the other definitions: Psychological Thriller
Now when I'm taking a few steps back and looking at these three movies, I can find a significant analogousness;
"Perhaps self-respect is a bit overrated,
especially if we're talking about falling madly in love."
